Donation made to ‘Building on Exceptional Care’ campaign
CLARINDA – In 1987, in one of its earliest gifts to the community, the Clarinda Foundation gave $2,000 to Clarinda Regional Health Center to buy waiting room furniture.
So began a almost 25-year relationship between the foundation and the hospital that continued recently with a sizeable gift to the Clarinda Medical Foundation’s “Building on Exceptional Care” campaign.
Clarinda Foundation board president Elaine Armstrong and Foundation director John Woolson presented a $100,000 check Feb. 11 at the site of the new hospital facility. The funds were directed to the “Building on Exceptional Care” capital campaign, which was established to equip and furnish the new hospital with state-of-the-art medical equipment and patient comfort items, once it opens in about 12 months’ time.
“We are thrilled with the level of commitment the Clarinda Foundation has shown toward the new hospital project,” CRHC CEO Chris Stipe said. “This leadership gift will go a long way towards helping us better equip the new building to help us with our goal of providing quality care to our patients.”
Armstrong stressed the importance of the legacy the Clarinda Foundation’s gift carries from its many past donors. Much of the funding, she said, came from many smaller gifts given over the years by residents who are no longer living in the community.
“We are honoring those past donations by passing on a much bigger gift for a project which will benefit the entire community for decades to come,” she said.
Stanley Johnson, president of the CRHC Board of Trustees, stated the Clarinda Foundation’s gift adds a sense of community to the funding of the project.
“The Clarinda Foundation is a leader when it comes to supporting the community and community projects, always with an eye towards our community’s future,” he said. “This new hospital is truly our community’s hospital, and we are so pleased to have their support.”
The Clarinda Foundation is a community foundation whose purpose is to nurture charitable giving, enrich quality of life and promote a sense of community in the Clarinda area. In almost a quarter century the Clarinda Foundation has contributed more than $225,000 in area Clarinda community allows and a matching amount in scholarships.
