On Jan. 25, Olivia and her brother TJ were helping to shovel a friend out of the snow when both were hit by a vehicle. Church Yard Sale: Townsend United Methodist Church’s annual Yard Sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be something for everyone: furniture, household items, books and toys. The sale is an indoor event and will be held rain or shine. The church is located at 265 Main St., at the corner of routes 13 and 119, in Townsend Center. This is the time of the year for seasonal cleaning and recycling your no longer needed items. Chairman Marcia MacMaster invites area residents to call the church if you have items to donate. The old adage holds true: “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure!” Please, no computers, exercise equipment or encyclopedias. Call 978-597-2486 for information and donation drop-off times.

Band concert, lawn party: 6:45 p.m., Townsend Common; special patriotic concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Townsend Fire/EMS will host lawn party, grilling hot dogs, hamburgers and sausages plus selling cold soda, bottled water and hot coffee. There will be numerous games for the youngsters.

Methodist Churches plan combined summer worship schedule

Townsend United Methodist Church and Pepperell’s Lawrence Memorial United Methodist Church have planned combined 10 a.m. summer worship services again this year.

July worship will be at Townsend UMC (July 3 to 31.) The church is located at 265 Main St., at the corner of routes 13 and 119 in Townsend Center.

The Aug. 10 a.m. worship service ( Aug. 7 to 28) will be held at Pepperell’s Lawrence Memorial UMC located at 1 Chapel Hill, off Mill Street, one block in from Pepperell’s Dunkin’ Donuts.

If you are interested in singing with the July summer choir in Townsend UMC, please know you are welcome to join on one Sunday or all Sundays.

Townsend Recreation Theater auditions coming soon

Townsend Recreation Summer Theatre auditions happening this July for interested teenagers! Auditions will be for “Check Please,” a short one act comedy by Jonathan Rand. This one-act is a hilarious depiction of terrible blind date scenarios and their possible outcomes. There are a lot of roles to fill with each part being memorable and hilarious in their own right, so we welcome everyone in the area entering grades 5-12 to attend auditions, Friday, July 8 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, July 9, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Townsend Town Hall. It is recommended to attend both days, but will not hinder your chances in casting if you can’t make both audition dates. Rehearsals will be Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in the early evening with the show being performed on: Friday, Aug. 12.

Parent/Child Program this summer

Townsend Recreation will host a SUMMER PARENT/CHILD PROGRAM at the Kid’s Kountry Playground. Lisa Bentall will oversee free play, story time, craft time, snack time, music and games, while parents help.

Program will be held June 28, 30, July 5, 7, 12, 14, 19, 21, 26, 28, Aug. 2, 4 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Price is $42/child. Parents are responsible for their own child’s morning snack. (Playground is located at the corner of Eastman and Turnpike roads.)

We need five kids to participate in order to run this program. This program is for walkers through age 4 (younger siblings can be present, too). This is a great way to introduce your child to a group of children. Great for parents to get to know other parents from the area, too!

Townsend Rec activities listed on town web site

Townsend Recreation will be offering Summer Rec at Hawthorne Brook Middle School in Townsend.

The program will run Monday, June 27 through Friday, Aug. 5, for ages 5-13. The price for the entire six weeks for the 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. program (bring own lunch) is $250. The entire six weeks of 9 a.m. to noon program is $175. Weekly rate for 9-12 or 9-2 is $55. Daily is $12. We offer sports, crafts and board games; instruction in tumbling, volleyball, sign language, floor hockey and dance, too!

Townsend United Methodist Church is hosting a during the week of Monday, Aug. 1, through Friday, Aug. 5, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. This is an early notice so families can include VBS in their summer plans.

The curriculum, “Shake it up cafe,” will give kids an extraordinary adventure filled with fun, excitement and creative Bible-based activities. VBS decorations, activities, crafts, skits, games music and snacks are all part of the week-long program.

The VBS is open to all kids of the area ages 4 through 12. The cost is $5 for the entire week with preregistration requested.

Fall Fair Early Bird registrations being accepted

The Townsend Historical Society is sponsoring the 30th annual Arts and Crafts Fair Saturday, Sept. 17, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 18, 10 a.m. -3 p.m. The fair is a very popular event and traditionally attracts artists and crafters from all over New England. The location of the Fair is on highly visible Townsend Common, 263 Main St., at the junction of routes 13 and 119.

To make this the ideal yet, there will be complementary activities with music and artisan demonstrations to attract many visitors to the Common. There will be food and snacks, free parking and restroom facilities available. It is a “rain or shine” event.
